On Site Swimming Education
Pupils at Christ the King Catholic Primary School have the opportunity to swim daily during autumn 2 using our on site 'pop up' pool. This on site facility enhances our provision for pupils in Years 4-6 who are learning to swim. There are two instructors supporting pupils with their swimming technique to ensure they are refined to a high standard. There are no more than 10 pupils in the pool in each session. This 1:5 ratio allows our pupils to maximise their swimming progress!
Our innovative swimming programme has transformed how we approach swimming and water safety education. Pupils participate in an intensive block of swimming lessons throughout the half term so that pupils can:
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively – e.g. front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
After School Provision
Throughout autumn 2, pupils can also complement their swimming lessons with a bespoke swimming after school clubs. Pupils can opt into the 'fun' sessions, splash sessions or Waterpolo. They have been a really popular option for extra curricular learning!
