Modern Foreign Languages
At Christ the King, our approach emphasises immersive and interactive learning, enabling students to explore cultural diversity and practical communication. We believe in fostering a lifelong love of languages through an engaging and structured curriculum. Our modern foreign languages (MfL) subject is guided by the La Jolie Ronde scheme, which provides a clear progression of skills and knowledge, ensuring students develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
At Christ the King, Spanish is taught from Year 3 to Year 6 once a week. The lesson is delivered by the MFL Specialist Teacher `Mrs Jabas`. All children will have their own Spanish jotter/vocabulary book to store what they need to remember. Children are encouraged to practise speaking Spanish as part of their daily routine, e.g. when answering the register, naming objects in the classrooms, counting different items or simply greeting each other at the start of the day.
Our children’s attitude towards Spanish, and languages in general, is extremely positive. Our children agree that learning and speaking other languages is exceptionally valuable and they take great pride using the target language. We ensure they also understand how important it is to know about other cultures, traditions and celebrations. We encourage our pupils to develop a love for languages and to have high ambitions and aspirations for themselves in terms of their future lives and careers.
