Music

.

Welcome to our Music curriculum page, where you can get a flavour of our Music provision at Christ the King. Music is an integral part of our curriculum and we can have developed a structured and progressive programme of study for our pupils to follow. Our learning is underpinned by the Kapow scheme, which provides a comprehensive framework for delivering exciting and engaging Music lessons. This scheme ensures that students are equipped with essential skills, linked to  singing, performance and playing instruments.

As part of our wider curriculum, we have weekly visits from the Diocese of Leeds schools singing Programme. In every session, a choral director leads whole school singing. During this time, the children have the opportunity to learn hymns, songs and prayers, linked to our RE curriculum.  In order to develop instrumental skills, our Year 3/4 children also have a weekly melodica lesson.

The academic year 2024/2025 has seen the development of our school choir and they have been involved in many events in the diocese, local area and within school.

As part  of our teaching in Music, we have weekly visits from a Choral Director from the Diocese of Leeds Singing Programme. He leads a whole school hymn practice weekly, along with choral singing for Peace Class. We also develop keyboard skills, with weekly melodica lessons.

Our Key Stage 2 choir ready to raise the roof, fundraising at Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre.

As part our musical development at Christ the King, we welcome visiting performers to school. Recently, the whole school were enthralled by the wonderful performance of the acclaimed French accordionist, Theo Ould - who received a huge ovation from children and staff.
